Grateful Heart


I've got a long way to go when it comes to meditating and getting still. My mind generally wanders to more important things like " should I grub on a greasy burger with blue cheese for dinner or finally have a salad?" That said, I've gotten a teensy-tiny better at it over the last couple of years, and now I actually have moments of fleeting peace where my life feels ultra-aligned and I know I'm right where I'm supposed to be. The topic of getting still and staying grateful came up in a chat with my mentor today, when I told her "for all the bitching I do, ya know, I've gotten exactly everything I've asked for in my life." Everything. I've. Asked For. And on that note, she suggested I start a daily gratitude list, something I do half-assed, and only on occasion.

So here's today's Top 10 list, in honor of having a really blessed life despite the mistakes I've made, and despite the shit that's been thrown my way (because let's face it, we've all got shit that smatters our lives).

I'm Grateful For:

1. A walkin', talkin' healthy body, creaks and all.

2. A daughter who calls and visits

3. Another day sober

4. The gift of meaningful conversation

5. Got-your-back friends and family who I could call day or night

6. Ben and Jerry's Salted Carmel Core ice cream

7. A roof over my head and a challenging job (okay, that's two)

8. Learning that self-deprecation is unattractive and self-defeating

9. Being open to finding love again

10. The ability to trust in something bigger than myself
